Pigmentation
What is Pigmentation?
Pigment is the colour in your skin. When you have too much in one area it is called “hyper-pigmentation”, and the spots appearing on your skin as a result are called “pigmented lesions”. These dark lesions usually result from the over production of melanin, which is the name of the pigment in our skin.
As you go through life and experience hormonal changes, the distribution of colour (melanin) in your skin can be affected, leading to the appearance of all kinds of pigmented lesions. These include moles, freckles or age spots. Most of these spots occur as a result of sun exposure, but also represent damage to our skin due to lifestyle choices, genetics or hormonal causes.
How is it Treated?
Our Pigmentation Treatment with our Harmony XL laser can reduce and remove the appearance of spots and skin hyper-pigmentation by targeting the melanin in the darkened area and dispersing it. The tiny fragments of the pigment are then cleared through a natural process. This clears all of the pigmentation layers, to reveal even-toned, unblemished skin.
These pigmentation treatments will be specially designed for your comfort, and are completely safe and effective for all skin types and colours, including dark skin. We will also recommend different approaches in different seasons, avoiding intense laser treatments during the Costa del Sol’s intense summers with heavy UV exposure.

Here’s what you need to know
· About your first consultation
Before your laser pigmentation treatment, we will ask you to visit the clinic to examine your skin and discuss your concerns. We will perform a skin test at this initial consultation to allow an initial assessment of your skin tolerability to the laser. This will allow us to tailor your personal treatment plan specifically to your skin. At this consultation, and throughout the treatment course, we will take photos for you to document your skin progress.
This initial consultation with our trained laser therapists is free. For an additional fee, this first consultation can be performed by an aesthetic doctor or dermatologist. Our trained laser therapists may also make a referral to a doctor if they deem it appropriate.
· How many treatments will you need?
Every patient is individual with individual needs, and treatment depends on size and depth of the treated area. While most patients will see the first sign of positive results after one session, we recommend undergoing at least three sessions for the best results and long-lasting effects. Each session should be spaced approximately 3 weeks apart.
· Before & After treatment
We recommend that you should avoid direct exposure to the sun prior to the treatment. Depending on your skin’s sensitivity, after your skin is treated, the treated areas may immediately appear red. This effect usually lasts for the first 24-48 hours but can be the case for up to 7 days. It is highly recommended that you avoid the sun for at least two weeks and protect the skin with sunscreen with at least SPF 50.
